Job overview Electronic Patient Records (EPR) represents a major IT project in Moorfield's excellence delivery programme. EPR will collate and consolidate the management of clinical records to support clinicians and colleagues across the trust in making more effective decisions, improving clinical outcomes and patient experience.

You will be joining Moorfields Eye Hospital at an exciting time as we transform and innovate our QA process, ensuring our solutions are robust, scalable, and secure.

We are seeking a senior test engineer with cloud and automation testing expertise to implement and maintain testing frameworks for our applications and services.
Experience in technologies (or similar)
  • .NET applications
  • PHP Framework; Selenium; Playwright; BDD
  • Test automation for cloud-based technology
  • APi Testing
You will be joining a team where your ideas and expertise are valued. You will apply best practices to deliver quality and reliable software services and collaborate with DevOps and operational teams to integrate testing into the CI/CD pipeline.

Main duties of the job This role is part of the IT Operations, who are responsible for:
  • Maintaining our IT services and ensuring they remain operational, performant, supported, fit-for-purpose and meeting the needs of our end users
  • As IT subject matter experts, contributing to the design and development of new products and services
  • Improving user experience in our systems and processes
  • Proactively maintaining our IT service portfolio and reducing technical debt
  • Helping to drive clinical innovation through technology
A senior test engineer is involved in test engineering activities at a complex level, and on large-scale projects / service delivery.
At this role level, you will:
  • Identify and raise awareness of risks arising from the automation test results.
  • Identify new and implement existing test frameworks to improve confidence in testing
  • Be proficient in a range of coding languages (you may be an expert in only one)
  • Mentor and advise other team members in testing practices

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Leadership
  • Mentor and coach other members of the Testing team
Test management
  • Operate within a Test Management Framework (example: International Software Testing Qualifications Board - ISTQB)
  • Identity process improvement opportunities for test management, estimation, monitoring and control tools and help implement improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the development of quality assurance test standards, policies and procedures
  • Contribute to ensuring enterprise architecture is scalable through test assurance
  • Contribute to innovation and service improvement through new and emerging technologies (such as AI & Machine Learning) in the quality assurance testing process
Functional testing
  • Design and execute a wide range of testing techniques and communicate test results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Make decisions on the environment for testing, and can coach others
  • Identify defects, alert the business to them, and help to prioritise them based on defect severity.
Non-functional testing
  • Design and execute a wide range of non-functional testing techniques.
  • Communicate non-functional test results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Make decisions on running types of non-functional testing.
  • Coach and mentor others.
  • Identify defects, alert the business to them, and help to prioritise them based on defect severity.
Technical breadth
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of different tools and techniques, and can train others.
  • Advise others on testing techniques and frameworks.
  • Effectively research, plan and train others within the team.

  • Think creatively, ask the right questions and critically evaluate and communicate findings to a larger team.

Person specification Education / Qualifications
  • Degree, or equivalent relevant level of experience
  • Relevant quality assurance testing certification, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant management / leadership qualification, or equivalent experience to degree level
Experience
  • Experience in the role of a test engineer, or equivalent role and proficiency with one (or more) scripting languages
  • Experience of working within a test management framework (ISTQB, etc)
  • Experience championing quality to drive successful and improved outcomes
