Senior Systems Engineer - Unix - 6 month contract

Our client, part of the United Nations, is looking to hire a contractor on a remote basis for 6 months

Responsibilities

• Active monitoring: daily review of system telemetry and logs, using existing monitoring systems, log analysers, active and passive health checkers.
• Proactive monitoring: identify risks in advance by evaluating trends from monitoring systems; investigating anomaly detection data from log analysers; and monitoring software releases and relevant security feeds.
• Plan software deployment, configuration and infrastructure changes
• Plan and lead the testing of the Disaster Recovery environment
• Support, analyse, identify and manage resolution of issues i
• Patch/Vulnerability Management
• Support to Auditing and Documentation
• Lead the Technical Team: Lead, plan and control the work of other technical resources (internal and external) ensuring the effective management, appropriate sourcing and efficient use of time and budget.
• Manage relationships between ICT and business users
• Manage the contracts and the relationship with external contractors and vendors for the support, implementation and delivery of services
• Identify and evaluate technology risks, mitigating controls, and opportunities for control improvement.

Qualifications

• Strong consultancy skills including consulting experience with United Nations organizations, international financial institutions or large companies engaging with Senior Management and Director/CIO level as appropriate for organization size
• Ability to utilize project management skills to coordinate and lead project teams in resolving complex problems and issues using their technical and functional knowledge and skills in relation to delivering successful projects
• Ability in presenting IT concepts to a variety of stakeholders and have strong influencing and negotiating skills to ensure the most appropriate solution is delivered to meet the business needs
• Strong analytical thinking and problem solving abilities paired with strong implementation skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
• Proven management and leadership qualities
• Capacity to manage and lead remote teams
• Capacity to communicate effectively with different stakeholders
• Strong experience in the use of Microsoft Project and Powerpoint

Required Skills

• Systems Administration: The incumbent must have at least 7 years of experience with UNIX troubleshooting and management skills.
• Excellent sys-admin skills, including VM and container management/deployment in Linux and Windows environment, with experience on latest and emerging technologies and trends
• Hands-on experience with managing services from leading cloud providers including install, configure, automate, and monitor various Cloud Services (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS)
• Given that most of the Infrastructure is administered and changed through systems automation, it is important that incumbent have a solid understanding of systems automation and is ready to apply changes to the infrastructure by changing the automation code and configuration and re-running the automations against a live environment. Furthermore, the incumbent must have full knowledge of CI/CD to manage integration and deployment pipelines for applications.
