Senior Support Worker (Weston Super Mare)

We are seeking a caring and dedicated full-time senior support worker in Weston-super-Mare with a pay rate of £13.75 per hour.
The role involves supporting a number of vulnerable adults with autism, learning disabilities, epilepsy and behaviours that may challenge, as part of a team.

About the senior support worker roleAs a senior support worker, you will be taking a key role as a support worker while also supporting the area manager and deputy area manager. You will:
- Supervise the effective running of the service when the management team are elsewhere.
- Educate, inform, train and mentor new and existing team members at the request of the management team.
- Support with auditing processes.
- Encourage the people we support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests.
- Co-ordinate scheduled activities for the people we support, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
- Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting and grooming, while respecting dignity and privacy, and/or support or prompt service users to undertake their personal care (as appropriate).
- Implement behaviour management strategies when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Update and maintain accurate records and take the lead in developing care plans.
This role is offered on a 40-hour-a-week contract, with the possibility of overtime. Shifts are typically 12 or 14 hours, with the opportunity to undertake regular sleep-ins.
Role requirementsWe are seeking someone who has:
- Experience as a senior support worker (or equivalent) in a supported living setting.
- Experience in managing or mentoring teams.
- The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations, particularly if faced with challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, as you will be supporting people who use various methods of communication.
- Good basic comprehension of the English language, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
- Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
