Position Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer I, you will own the delivery of high-quality software and products that can be deployed frequently and safely into production. Working with similarly minded people, you collaborate with your team to encourage best coding practices. You are an advocate of test automation and have a clear view of where to make the best use of it.

At Rightmove we work as part of autonomous cross functional teams in an agile environment. Each team owns a part of the Rightmove experience made up of design, product and engineering. You will deliver quality solutions that satisfy millions of users, thousands of agents and hundreds of passionate Rightmovers.

You will contribute towards defining solutions to business and technical problems in a way which ensures maintainability, scalability and high performance standards, working collaboratively across a mix of product and centralised teams towards Rightmove's strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing and building impactful features and improvements across our applications using technologies like TypeScript, React, Node.js, Express, Kubernetes, and GitLab.
  • Partnering with cross functional teams to solve complex challenges and deliver thoughtful, scalable solutions.
  • Playing an active role in sprint planning and helping shape the roadmap by contributing to decisions on feature prioritization.
  • Engaging in engineering forums and initiatives that elevate our craft and drive continuous improvement across the discipline.
  • Sharing expertise and mentoring others to foster a culture of learning and growth.
  • Providing thoughtful estimates for user stories and helping the team plan effectively.
  • Participating in code reviews, offering constructive feedback, and supporting peers technically.
  • Exploring and advocating for emerging technologies that can enhance our platform and developer experience.
  • Thriving in an Agile environment where collaboration, experimentation, and iteration are key.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience working in a user facing product team, with a strong understanding of customer needs and product impact.
  • Passionate about quality and testing, with hands on experience in TDD and tools like Jest and React Testing Library.
  • Values clean, maintainable code and enjoys discussing different approaches to solving problems.
  • Curious about how users interact with live applications and motivated to improve performance and usability.
  • Embraces modern technologies and has a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.
  • Experienced in mentoring and supporting other engineers, helping them grow in their careers.
  • Comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning from others in a collaborative environment.
  • Takes ownership and pride in the work delivered by the team, with a strong sense of accountability.
