The Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Chats stream - Fanvue's most critical monetisation engine. You will be one of the key owners of our real time chat platform, responsible for building and scaling the systems that drive creator-fan interactions, AI-native features, and high-volume transactional messaging.

This role exists because we currently have a single engineer supporting this mission critical stream. Bringing in a second expert ensures continuity, unlocks new monetisation capabilities, and accelerates our ability to ship high impact features.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain Fanvue's real time, stateful Chat Service at scale

  • Own and evolve internal event driven APIs that connect chat data to monetisation, user, and AI systems

  • Instrument, monitor, and continuously improve performance across latency, throughput, and concurrency

  • Architect the foundational data and API layers required for Always On AI features (translation, summarisation, agentic workflows)

  • Write clear, rigorously engineered design documents and contribute to high quality code reviews

  • Partner closely with Product to build new social and monetisation features such as reactions, in chat tipping, and unlockable content

  • Collaborate with SRE to define infrastructure, monitoring dashboards, and scaling strategies for peak creator usage

  • Act as a technical leader within the team, improving engineering practices and mentoring others

Who You Are

A highly skilled backend or distributed systems engineer with deep experience building low latency, high throughput, real time services. You think in systems, care about performance at scale, and understand the business impact of every architectural decision. You bring:

  • Strong background in real time, distributed system development (WebSockets, gRPC, streaming architectures)

  • Ability to design scalable, fault tolerant systems from first principles

  • Product minded engineering instincts with an understanding of user value and monetisation

  • High ownership mentality with a pragmatic, outcome driven approach

  • Experience debugging complex performance issues using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or DataDog

  • Mastery of backend languages such as Go, Node.js, or C#, and strong API design experience across REST and event driven systems

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical trade offs clearly

Nice to haves
  • Experience working in creator platforms, chat products, or AI enabled systems

  • Familiarity with NoSQL and in memory data stores like Redis or DynamoDB

  • Prior experience building monetisation primitives or transactional messaging features
