Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires Senior Software Developer with Active SC Cleareance to be based at their client's office in Newcastle/London/Leeds/Manchester/Blackpool/Sheffield, UK.

This is a hybrid role - you can work remotely in the UK and attend the Newcastle/London/Leeds/Manchester/Blackpool/Sheffield office 1-2 days per week

This is a 12 month temporary contract to start ASAP

The Role

• As a Senior Software Developer, you will develop and maintain software products and contribute to their design within a multi functional Agile delivery team. You will be responsible for the operational stability of the products you build and will help improve their ongoing robustness and resilience.
• This role expects full stack capability. You will be proficient in Back End technologies and databases while also being able to build Front End user interfaces (UIs), translating designs into implementations that consider user experience, performance, and security.
• You will work with modern cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure), including serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS), containerized platforms, APIs and microservice/event-driven architectures (Kafka), supported by CI/CD pipelines.
• You will work on evolving digital services, including partially developed user interfaces, supporting iterative delivery towards MVP and customer-facing solutions. You will collaborate closely with UCD, DevOps, and product teams, adapting solutions based on user feedback and supporting both UI and Back End development activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software products for digital services and contribute to solution design
• Build full-stack applications using Java (8+), Node.js, Spring Boot, and modern Front End frameworks (Angular preferred)
• Work on existing and evolving UI components, supporting iterative development towards MVP and production-ready user journeys
• Collaborate with DevOps, UCD, and Agile delivery teams to support design, deployment, testing, and continuous improvement
• Develop applications using cloud-native patterns across AWS/Azure, including serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS)
• Design and build APIs, RESTful services, and microservice/event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar)
• Support backlog activities including defect resolution, non-UI development tasks, and BAU contributions as required
• Use Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to provision and manage scalable, repeatable environments
• Work with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), including exposure to managed platforms (eg, EKS)
• Build and maintain automated test suites, contribute to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), and follow engineering best practices including code quality, security, accessibility (WCAG) and performance optimizatio

Key Requirements

Essential Skills:

• Strong full-stack development capability across Back End, databases, and Front End applications
• Strong hands-on full-stack development experience using Node.js(JavaScript/TypeScript), Back End frameworks (eg, Express) and modern Front End frameworks (Angular preferred) with additional experience in Java (Spring Boot)
• Experience with AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway - private, SQS, S3, KMS, CloudWatch, X-Ray)
• Experience with modern Front End frameworks (Angular preferred)
• Experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Amazon DocumentDB
• Experience designing and working with APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar)
• Familiarity with templating frameworks such as Nunjuck and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
• Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and exposure to platforms such as AWS EKS
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab preferred) and automated build/test processes
• Experience in automated testing using modern frameworks (eg, Jest for Node.js applications)
• Strong Agile delivery experience with ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams

Desirable Skills:

• Holding Active SC Clearance or Held Active clearance in past or at least SC Eligible
• Experience with event-driven architectures (eg Kafka)
• Experience with API gateway platforms such as Kong EE
• Exposure to serverless and event-driven architectures at scale
• Familiarity with code quality tools (eg, SonarQube) Experience working on public sector or accessible digital services
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
• Exposure to AI/ML-enabled development, including LLMs, context and guardrails-style validation/testing, and model deployment/maintenance concepts
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment
