Senior SME Insurance Expert - Commercial P&C/Underwriting

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Commercial P&C Insurance Expert to support a leading Swiss insurance company on a short-term strategic assignment.

The role will focus on reviewing and further developing the Commercial P&C offering for the Swiss SME market, with particular emphasis on risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, product structures and operational underwriting processes.

This is a senior SME position requiring someone who can quickly understand the existing environment, work independently and contribute from day one.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and further develop the P&C risk appetite framework
• Assess and enhance the SME commercial insurance product offering
• Review underwriting guidelines, limits, deductibles and steering principles
• Assess coverage concepts, facility agreements and framework contracts
• Analyse current underwriting practices, processes and workflows
• Identify improvement opportunities and provide practical recommendations
• Document processes, recommendations and work instructions
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Sales, Business Development and management stakeholders

Required Experience

• Several years of experience in the Swiss SME/Commercial Insurance market
• Strong hands-on background in Underwriting, Technical Underwriting or as a P&C Insurance SME
• Deep knowledge of Property and/or Casualty insurance
• Strong understanding of commercial risk assessment and underwriting
• Experience with risk appetite frameworks, underwriting guidelines, limits and deductibles
• Good knowledge of the Swiss insurance market and its underwriting practices
• Ability to work independently with minimal onboarding
• German & English or French & English preferred

Highly Relevant experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:

• Commercial Property
• Commercial Liability
• Engineering Insurance
• SME Commercial P&C products
• Facility/framework agreements
• Coverage concepts and product frameworks
• Underwriting process optimisation

Ideal Candidate

A senior Swiss Commercial P&C professional, ideally from a technical underwriting or underwriting background, who combines strong insurance product knowledge with practical experience in risk appetite, portfolio steering, underwriting guidelines and SME commercial insurance.

The successful candidate will be pragmatic, analytical and able to deliver actionable recommendations from day one.
