La position

As a Senior Scientist within our Reagent Manufacturing team, you will play a pivotal role in the technical delivery of complex projects that bridge the gap between development and production. Joining our Motherwell site, you will lead the creation and management of essential experiments and validation of assays to ensure our life-saving diagnostics meet the highest quality specifications. The Opportunity

In this Senior Scientist position, you will be accountable for the successful transfer, validation, and continuous improvement of multiple reagent projects, ensuring they move from research into high-quality manufacturing.

  • Lead and deliverTechnically complex projects within designated timelines, ensuring all new assays meet rigorous Design for Manufacture requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement for existing product lines, providing expert technical input to optimize performance, enhance yields, and resolve investigations.

  • Design and execute advanced experiments using Design of Experiments (DoE) to define critical next steps and analyze results using statistical methods.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to gain technical insights into future products and ensure seamless integration.

  • Maintain high regulatory standards by adhering to GLP, GMP, and ISO 13485 requirements, ensuring all validation procedures and technical reports meet strict criteria.

  • Mentor and direct the day-to-day experimental work of the team, fostering a culture of scientific rigour, innovation, and proactive problem-solving.

Who you are

You are a technical leader with a passion for diagnostic technology and a proven track record of managing scientific projects in a regulated environment.

  • You hold a degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline. An MSc or PhD in a relevant field is desirable.

  • You have strong and proven experience in a regulated laboratory, with deep expertise in protein chemistry processes (protein-to-protein/surface coupling) and immunoassay technology.

  • You have experience with ISO 13485 / Medical Device standards and a solid understanding of validation requirements for commercial product

  • You are proficient in characterization techniques such as Flow Cytometry, HPLC, and Dynamic Light Scattering, alongside experience in equipment-based manufacture using FPLC or TFF.

  • You demonstrate strong leadership skills, write concise protocols, and communicate complex data effectively to senior stakeholders.

  • You possess a high level of innovation and analytical skill, specifically in statistical analysis and solving complex technical challenges.

This is an on-site position based at our current location Athena Motherwell. Please note that you would be required to travel to the other site (in Tullibody) occasionally. This is a fulltime role working Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week).

We offer a fixed term contract (until 30th April 2027 with the potential to extend).
