About the role

As a Senior Retail Product Designer at John Lewis Partnership, you will lead the design of retail product areas, guiding the future vision and delivering incremental steps to shape the customer experience. You will manage the entire product design lifecycle, from discovery and user journey mapping through to final UI design, in a cross functional team that includes Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists and User Researchers.

  • Salary £52,000 - £80,000

  • Contract type Permanent role

  • Working pattern Hybrid: 2-3 days in person, remainder remote, with flexible arrangements where possible

  • Location Bracknell

Key responsibilities
  • Lead design for retail product areas, ensuring alignment with the overall Waitrose experience.
  • Drive the future vision, delivering on incremental steps to guide the team.
  • Produce all design artefacts, from discovery and user journey mapping to final UI details.
  • Conduct and champion user research, including participation in sessions, analysis of insights and lightweight studies.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists and User Researchers, maintaining strong communication, documentation and facilitation throughout the design process.
  • Deliver intuitive, polished and accessible user experiences, balancing ideal solutions with technical constraints, experimentation strategy and business risk.
Essential skills and experience
  • Experience as part of a product team in an agile environment.
  • Hands on experience throughout the product design lifecycle - discovery to final UI.
  • Portfolio showcasing relevant design work.
  • Agile sprint experience with familiar backlogs and feature sets.
  • High level understanding of product strategy and clear articulation of design decisions.
  • Awareness of technical implications of design choices.
  • Strong passion for problem solving and UX design.
  • Excellent communication skills and people focused design mentality, capable of setting up frameworks and brainstorming concepts.
Desirable skills and experience
  • Retail e commerce experience within a large organisation.
  • Proficiency in modern design tools such as Figma.
  • Front end programming and ability to build simple prototypes.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining cross platform design systems.
  • Experience conducting user research.
