The Opportunity

The University of Edinburgh is a world-class organisation, with the University of Edinburgh Genetics Core providescutting-edgegenomics analysis to support research.As a Senior Research technician,embedded within the Genetics Core,you willbe responsible forsupporting the delivery of theSequenceMEproject.

This innovative project will investigate the genomics ofME/CFS, whichis a severe, multi-system disease affecting approximately 400,000 people in the UK.It builds on theDecodeMEproject- the world's largest ME/CFS genetic study, analysing 15,000+ cases of European genetic ancestry whichidentified eight genomic regions robustly associated with disease risk, implicating immune and neurological pathways.

SequenceMEwill whole genome sequenceDNA from 6,000DecodeMEparticipants, using Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencing platforms,toidentifycausal genes and pathways that were invisible toprevioustechnologies.

The project is an existing partnership between: Action for ME,the University of Edinburgh,Oxford Nanopore Technologies,and the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute.

Applicants are expected to haveacquiredthe essential skills, knowledge,experienceand abilities required of the post and as outlined in the person specification. You will have obtained aBachelordegree or equivalent qualification and will have work experience in relevant technical and clinical governance roles. Applicants mustdemonstrateextensive knowledge of genomic analysis techniques.Previousexperience and knowledge of DNA sequencing using Next-Generation analysis platforms, particularly ONT,is desirable.

Thispost is full-time (35hours per week)and presents a goodinternalsecondment opportunity.
