Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Officer with a strong cyber security background to lead a focused research project on Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) dependencies. The aim is to develop an accurate understanding of the relative priority of the UK's international partners based on CII interdependencies, informing future cyber security risk mitigation strategies.

About the Role
As Senior Research Officer, you will lead a small team of CII researchers and oversee the delivery of key research outputs. Your work will include:

  • Conducting research into Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) dependencies.
  • Updating and refining the data evaluation methodology.
  • Implementing the CII prioritisation approach based on dependency risk analysis.
  • Identifying opportunities for future cyber security risk mitigation.

CII Researchers will work under your leadership and contribute to:

  • CNI dependency research.
  • Application of the data evaluation methodology.
  • Use of the CII prioritisation approach to assess dependency risks.

What does the role involve:

  • Collaborative teamwork to achieve project outcomes.
  • Facilitating stakeholder workshops and interviews, including presenting findings and gathering feedback.
  • Engaging directly with stakeholders in the public, private, and academic sectors.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a strategic system of systems level with a global perspective.
  • Proven experience in cyber security risk mitigation, requirements, and capacity building at enterprise and national levels.
  • Experience in protecting CNI from cyber threats, ideally across sectors such as telecommunications, energy, essential digital services, industry, finance, and banking.
  • Up-to-date expert knowledge of cyber security risk identification and mitigation in the international CII context.
  • Broad understanding of modern Information Systems architecture and operation in globally distributed service environments.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Experience in mapping dependencies.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
