What You Can Expect- Supports the identification and development of new technologies related to biosensors, infection management, biomaterials and tissue repair.
- Serves as a subject matter expert, contributing to and collaborating on new product development projects involving biocompatibility, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing. Acts as a scientific advisor to functions such as Development, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Marketing, Sales, Clinical Affairs, and Business Development (not exhaustive).
- Maintains close collaboration with other Zimmer Biomet sites and external suppliers. Supports Master's and PhD research projects at partner universities, actively seeking opportunities for academic collaboration and external funding.
- Delivers training for both Team Members and Customers.
- Support the identification and development of technologies in areas such as infection management, biomaterials, tissue repair and regeneration, and emerging non-material-based innovations (e.g. biosensors).
- Conduct technology scouting by monitoring trade publications, academic journals, and university research activity, and disseminate relevant findings within the organisation.
- Contribute to New Product Development (NPD) by supporting biocompatibility assessments, mechanical testing, and risk management activities.
- Support regulatory submissions to Notified Bodies and other global regulatory authorities.
- Author technical protocols, scientific reviews, product specifications, and other documentation required for regulatory submissions.
- Support Manufacturing by investigating and resolving technical issues, exploring new manufacturing methods, and validating processes and equipment through testing.
- Provide Sales and Marketing support through employee and surgeon training, development of technical marketing materials, and by delivering presentations at Zimmer Biomet meetings as part of the faculty.
- Deliver cross-functional training for internal and external personnel in Manufacturing, QA, Regulatory, NPD, Marketing, and Sales.
- Support Business Development by addressing technical queries during due diligence activities.
- Oversee external laboratory testing and analysis.
- Review and update internal procedures to ensure alignment with evolving ISO and ASTM standards.
- Represent Zimmer Biomet at scientific societies and international meetings through presentations and technical contributions.
- Maintain up-to-date scientific and medical knowledge by attending relevant conferences, courses, and meetings.
- Provide technical support for external collaborators through meetings and site visits.
- Explore opportunities for academic collaboration with universities and research laboratories.
- Identify opportunities for external research funding.
- Support university-based research projects at Master's and PhD level
- Serves as a key contributor to research and product development projects, providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise.
- Experienced in collaborating with universities and external laboratories on research activities and innovation programmes.
- Acts as a specialist and internal consultant, with the ability to navigate and engage both internal and external networks to obtain critical information and insights.
- Solves complex challenges related to analytical testing, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance.
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver clear, confident, and audience-appropriate scientific presentations.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of testing methodologies, materials research, and cross-functional processes.
- Capable of designing robust testing plans and experiments, with sound judgement on which evaluations are critical for project progression.
- Maintains a solid working knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g. ISO, ASTM) and applies them effectively in day-to-day work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities; able to evaluate multiple dimensions of a problem and implement timely, practical solutions.
- Proactively advances methods and knowledge within the team - establishing new approaches and frameworks for future work ("trailblazing").
- Takes ownership of the quality and integrity of personal work and contributes to maintaining high standards across project teams.
- Familiar with intellectual property (IP) databases and the principles of IP protection and management.
- Works independently, demonstrating foresight and the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.
- Continuously seeks and identifies opportunities to improve departmental practices and outcomes.
- Balances the needs of multiple departments to meet project timelines and customer expectations.
- Plans and utilises resources effectively, ensuring efficient and timely execution of project tasks.
- Communicates professionally, concisely, and with sensitivity when engaging with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Handles complex technical discussions with confidence and clarity.
- Demonstrates strong initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
- A higher degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, such as Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering. A higher degree project related to biosensors is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership or significant contribution to complex, high-impact projects within the medical device industry or academic research environments.
- A strong record of internal and external training relevant to their area of expertise.
- Proven ability to present technical data clearly and persuasively to expert audiences
- Skilled in communicating complex scientific concepts in an accessible and engaging manner, with experience presenting at research meetings and scientific forums.
