Salary: Appointment will be made on the Radiographer Scale (€59,046 - €68,374) at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: Full Time, 35 hours per week

Purpose of the Role: The Senior Radiographer leads and manages service delivery on a day to day basis within general radiology areas, supporting the Clinical Specialist Radiographers in specialised areas where in service or post graduate training has been completed. The role requires the ability to work in a rapidly changing environment and willingness to undertake additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Respect the confidential nature of the role and the patient's right to confidentiality.
• Read and adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and guidelines of Beaumont Imaging & Interventional Radiology Directorate.
• Maintain the highest standard of hygiene at all times in the hospital.
• Ensure effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
• Use information technology appropriately and respect confidentiality law, ethics, privacy and data protection.
• Assist with induction of new staff.
• Ensure high standards of radiographic images.
• Report problems to the Radiographic Services Manager or Deputy.
• Undertake training for junior radiographers, student radiographers, trainee radiologists, etc.
• Communicate with other staff to ensure efficient patient flow through each area.
• Communicate with other departments regarding patient flow (e.g. ECG, Respiratory, Ward) and liaise with clinical teams on patient queries and problems.
• Advise junior staff on radiation protection protocols concerning patients and staff.
• Ensure patient comfort while in the diagnostic imaging department, explaining procedures and waiting times.
• Participate in on call rota and sessional duties.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Radiographic Services Manager.
• Radiographers may be assigned to work in radiology installations at St Josephs Raheny, St Lukes Radiation Oncology building on Beaumont campus and Beaumont Hospitals OPD installation in the OMNI shopping centre Santry.

Professional

• Ensure every patient is treated respectfully and provided with a high quality service.
• Communicate with all staff in a courteous manner at all times.
• Attend relevant postgraduate courses as appropriate.
• Assist with the quality assurance programme.

Operations

• Team leader responsibilities for delivering a caring, efficient, confidential radiographic service within general radiology areas.
• Perform radiographic and imaging examinations as required in the Department of Radiology and associated areas.
• Participate in "on call" and sessional duties out of hours on a rotational basis.
• Have a flexible approach to work to facilitate urgent cases.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols and guidelines to optimise resource utilisation and audit usage.
• Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement or upgrading.
• Take part in in service training as required.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of clinical, technical and radiographic developments and promote best practices.
• Attend meetings as requested by the Radiography Services Manager II, Radiography Services Manager I and Superintendent I, keeping staff briefed on developments.
• Motivate other team members.

Quality Assurance

• Take appropriate action in accordance with hospital policy in relation to complaints, accidents and incidents.
• Accountable for the quality of the service provided, including customer service and technical aspects.
• Take part in routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures.
• Be involved in the Radiographer's Quality Assurance Programme, recording and reporting equipment faults and issues.
• Ensure radiation protection rules and regulations are applied at all times.
• Ensure hospital policies on infection control, health and safety, etc., are understood and complied with.
• Keep the department and work area clean, tidy and safe.
• Pay particular attention to personal appearance while on duty.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria

Mandatory:

• Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
• (a) Candidates for appointment must:
• Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
• Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years) post qualification clinical experience.
• Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
• Provide proof of statutory registration on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
• On appointment, maintain annual registration on the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
• Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE via the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Technical/Clinical Competencies Required:

• Radiographic skills to provide a comprehensive service to patients in your area of assignment.
• Working knowledge of radiation protection legislation and guidelines.
• Practical application of best practice guidelines and protocols in radiography.
• IT skills.

Desirable: Basic Life Support

Proficiency in the English language: A proficiency requirement of all roles within Beaumont Hospital. Written and spoken English proficiency will be assessed during the interview process.

NOTE: Valid work permission for Ireland is essential.

Benefits and Conditions

All staff are required to work the agreed roster/on call arrangements as advised by the line manager. Contracted hours may vary between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm over seven days to meet the needs of extended day services in accordance with the Framework Agreement.
