Overview

The Bons Secours Radiotherapy, UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre Cork is hiring a Senior Radiation Therapist on a permanent, full time contract. The role involves preparation and treatment of patients with cancer or benign conditions requiring radiotherapy, providing psychosocial support, justifying pre treatment imaging, ensuring accurate treatment delivery, adhering to radiation safety regulations, evaluating own work quality, engaging in continuous professional development, and mentoring junior staff. Leadership and efficient workflow management within the clinical area are required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern, and support for patients, visitors, medical staff, and co workers consistently.
  • Delivers radiation treatment according to prescription and treatment plan, ensuring safety through departmental procedures; reports any deviations to the Clinical Specialist.
  • Assures quality of treatment delivery through accurate documentation of treatment records.
  • Acquires, interprets, and evaluates electronic images, implementing required changes per departmental procedures; explains treatment procedures to patient/family, refers medical questions to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs CT simulation/clinical mark ups, chooses and performs optimal immobilisation; administers oral and IV contrast agents as requested; measures for treatment calculations; documents and inputs data into ARIA.
  • Assists in orientation and supervision of students during clinical rotations; helps student liaison radiation therapists evaluate performance.
  • Assists as needed in all treatment related procedures, at other UPMC Ireland locations as required.
  • Uses effective communication to explain procedures, respond to patient concerns, observe patients for reactions, and report to staff; reinforces patient education on side effect management and reports non compliance.
  • Performs daily and weekly QA activity for assigned equipment; documents findings outside normal range; notifies Physics team; participates in quality improvement programs.
  • Attends multidisciplinary team meetings for patient care coordination.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly treatment room.
  • Provides on call cover for emergency patient treatment.
  • Ensures smooth operation of the daily treatment list.
  • Co ordinates decisions with junior staff, taking responsibility for patient treatment decisions.
  • Trains and supervises junior radiotherapy staff; ensures competency completion.
  • Participates in individual performance review and staff development implementation.
  • Assists Clinical Specialist team in developing and implementing new technology and procedures.
  • Familiarises with administrative tasks of the department and covers as necessary.
  • Maintains continuous professional development per CORU registration guidelines.
Standard Responsibilities
  • Performs in accordance with system wide competencies/behaviours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Radiation Therapy recognised by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Annual registration with CORU.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years full time post qualification clinical experience.

Salary: €53,195.66 - €69,136.16 per annum (based on a 35 hour week)
