Job Description

The Senior Project Officer will contribute primarily to international efforts to reduce methane emissions at the subnational level. They will play a key role in supporting the coordination and delivery of Climate Group's efforts to drive subnational leadership on methane and other key global implementation efforts including the Subnational Methane Action Coalition This critical role would be a part of the Under2 Coalition and Subnational team and provide a key line into the global implementation efforts at Climate Group.

  • Engagement: Play a proactive role in engaging SMAC members across the project activities, and working with Climate Group colleagues and project partners to identify and recruit new members.
  • Advocacy: Working with the project team and partners, Climate Group's Advocacy team, and SMAC members lead on developing and delivering an advocacy strategy for SMAC.
  • Coordination: Working closely with the project team and partners, support the coordination of SMAC.
  • Expansion: Working closely with colleagues and project partners, support with mapping and engaging potential target jurisdictions for recruitment to SMAC.
  • Delivery: Support with developing and delivering a joint workplan for SMAC; and supporting with developing strategic partnerships for SMAC.
  • Community of Practice: Support with establishing a community of practice among SMAC members and key stakeholders to share lessons learned and best practices on identifying and reducing methane emissions.
  • Technical support: Work with subnational governments and technical partners to help facilitate the development and implementation of methane action plans.
  • International and regional convenings: Support with the organisation of key international and regional convenings to profile SMAC members' leadership on methane abatement.
About you

  • Relevant experience in climate policy, environmental advocacy, international development, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement with governments, NGOs, or international partners-ideally in a climate or sustainability context.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, including experience translating data and policy into action-oriented insights
  • Strong understanding of climate change policy, with familiarity with subnational governance.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including coordination of multi-stakeholder events, webinars, or international convenings and cross time-zone management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting reports, presentations, and/or advocacy materials.
  • Experience working in a global organization or multi-time zone environment.
  • Experience contributing to or developing advocacy strategies for international climate policy.
  • Knowledge of international frameworks such as the UNFCCC, Global Methane Pledge, or Climate & Clean Air Coalition.
  • Experience working directly with subnational governments (states, provinces, or regions) on climate or environmental initiatives.
  • Specific familiarity with methane mitigation, emissions reduction, and subnational governance.
  • Background in policy research or contribution to climate-related publications or reports.

The salary offered is £30,250 - £36,970 per annum, based on experience.
