The role

SSEN Transmission has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager (SPM) to lead the delivery of a new 220/132/33kV substation at Finstown in Orkney, as part of our broader initiative to connect Orkney to the UK grid for the first time. You will play a crucial role in project delivery - developing your team, building stakeholder relationships, delivering on schedule, and ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Base Location: Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, or Orkney.

Due to the location and size of the Orkney project, the SPM will be required to be on-site at least every second week for 2-3 days, overseeing construction and safety, health, welfare, and environmental requirements.

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent Full Time Flexible First options available

You will
  • Be accountable for safety, health, wellbeing, and environmental compliance of the project activities, including adherence to our behaviour charters and CDM regulations.
  • Plan, monitor, and control projects to ensure they are executed within cost, schedule, and quality parameters.
  • Manage all commercial aspects, including contract negotiations, awards, NEC contract management, and dispute escalation.
  • Ensure the use of recognised project management processes, reporting methods, and tools, especially the Large Capital Projects (LCP) Governance Framework.
  • Lead and demonstrate our core values, ensuring your team is competent, motivated, and well-organised. Take line management and mentoring responsibilities for direct reports.
You have
  • A proven track record of leading and safely delivering projects in the Transmission, Construction, Energy, or utilities sector, on budget, on schedule, and to quality standards.
  • An engineering, construction, or project management qualification/degree or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering or construction, including environmental and safety legislation such as CDM 2015.
  • A commercially astute mindset with experience in negotiating and managing NEC Contracts; a recognised NEC qualification is a bonus.
  • Experience in governance, reporting, and management of projects in regulated environments, with prior delivery budgets over £10m.
