Senior Primary Care Counsellor - Band 7

Salary is dependent on experience

37.5 hours per week (Part-time hours can be considered)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our Bromley Talking Therapies Service as a Senior Primary Care Counsellor. Our service is part of the national programme of NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depresssion in adults. We provide low and high-intensity therapies within the standards of a stepped-care model.

The successful candidate will have significant experience working in Talking Therapies services and providing brief counselling for patients with depression.

Applicants must be accredited with the BACP or equivalent, and ideally be qualified in one or more NICE-recommended psychological therapies for depression (e.g., PCE-CfD, IPT).

Salary is dependent on NHS experience and current banding/pay point.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen within Bromley Talking Therapies for an experienced, accredited counsellor, to provide counselling to adults and lead a counselling team.

Job Summary (not exhaustive)

  • providing assessment and counselling to clients of the Talking Therapies service
  • providing advice/consultation on clients' psychological care to referrers, colleagues, family members/carers and other healthcare professionals
  • providing line management and clinical supervision to a team of counsellors
  • to lead on service development in agreed areas of the service

Person specification Qualifications
  • Postgraduate professional qualification in counselling and psychotherapy (BACP or UKCP accreditation)
  • Qualification in one or more specialist trainings in NICE-recommended psychological therapies for depression (e.g., Person Centred Counselling for Depression)
  • A degree in psychology, nursing, occupational therapy or a related discipline
Professional Registration
  • Accredited with a recognised counselling or psychotherapy organisation (e.g., BACP, UKCP)
Skills
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and other professionals
  • Ability to work with a significant degree of autonomy, and as part of a team
  • Ability to work to performance managed targets
  • Adaptable to the needs of the service on a day-to-day basis and have a flexible approach to duties
Experience
  • A minimum of two-year post qualification experience of assessment and treatment of clients within an NHS Talking Therapies service
  • Knowledge of the role and value of a full range of evidence-based therapies for a range of mental health problems
  • Experience of identifying and managing safeguarding concerns and clinical risk
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
  • Experience of clinical audits and evaluation
  • Experience of leading on service development
