Job Description
Overview

The Senior Planner is responsible for developing the baseline contract programme, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of a construction (target) programme, highlighting areas for improvement against the contract programme.
  • Develop tendering programmes and validate these with the supply chain, including preparation of settlement information.
  • Ensure all programmes are fully logic linked to generate a robust critical path, float paths, and be capable of analysis.
  • Plan from first principles, developing own logic, assessing work quantum, calculating periods, and resource loading.
  • Prepare sequence sketches and 'mark ups' for logistics, supporting the 'bases' of the programme.
  • Support the development of 4D programmes where desirable.
  • Engage with the supply chain to develop and validate the project programme concerning design, lead-in times, construction periods, and resource requirements.
  • Be aware of risks related to H&S, commercial, quality, and time, and document programme risks.
  • Include hold points for inspections and quality sign-offs.
  • Identify opportunities and create conditions to capitalize on them.
  • Be familiar with different contract forms, including NEC, and make provisions for TRA and Terminal Float.
  • Maintain electronic files and administer planning and programme documents using the common data environment (CDE).
  • Produce high-standard contract and tender programme files, capable of passing CIOB or DCMA quality checks.
Experience
  • Proven experience working with clients, contractors, and stakeholders on live construction projects.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK and EU legal frameworks, especially contract management.
  • Experience managing and developing junior planners.
  • Experience in laboratory constructions and high-tech manufacturing facilities (desirable).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Experience with Asta PowerProject and Primavera P6.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree or diploma.
  • Qualifications in construction management.
  • Certification in planning and programme software (desirable).
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (desirable).
  • Advanced training in Asta Powerproject (Progress Analysis & S-curve reporting).
  • Advanced Primavera P6 training (cost and resource management).
  • Advanced understanding of JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Basic BIM training and understanding of the CDE.
