THE role & responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior PCB Design Engineer, with a strong portfolio of successfully completed PCB design projects to strengthen our hardware execution capability and take ownership of the delivery of complex RF digital and mixed technology printed circuits designs. As someone that enjoys a varied and evolving set of design challenges in a dynamic environment, you will be working with experts covering technologies from DC to mmWave frequencies and high-performance FPGA and digital platforms. You are delivery focused, with a strong bias toward finishing designs thoroughly and efficiently. Reporting to our Director of Hardware, key responsibilities will include:

  • Own and shape the PCB design processes from library design to complete PCB designs.
  • Work closely with design engineers to turn draft schematics into functioning PCBAs
  • Ensure deliverables are to the agreed timescale, specification, and quality in accordance with company's ISO9001 quality procedures
  • Perform both internal & external customer design reviews with effective presentation skills.
  • Maintain high professional standards and provide a strong view of PCB design best practice.
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery efficiency and excellence of outcomes in a fast-paced commercial environment

Skills and experience

  • Highly proficient in the PCB design of RF, digital, analogue, and power PCB's
  • You work with urgency and discipline, ensuring all aspects of the PCB design are fully completed, reviewed, and released on time with no loose ends.
  • Advanced knowledge of constraints and use of the constraint manager. Net, Pin pair and combination-net (Xnets) length matching
  • Expertise in HDI technologies (Micro vias, Stacked via, Via-in-Pad & Back drill ), including multi-layer controlled impedance RF designs upto mmWave frequencies.
  • High skill level using PCB design tools. Experience of Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout essential
  • Familiarity with Siemens PADS software for legacy designs would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of Surface Mount Technology, Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) techniques
  • Good working knowledge of IPC standards for high reliability products and EMI/EMC requirements for best design practice
  • Experience of product design & development and ability to closely integrate with the mechanical design team.
  • Ability to innovate and help hardware & mechanical engineers resolve challenging design tasks.
  • Confident working under pressure, self-motivated and able to work independently

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have an HNC/HND or degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, supported by relevant industry experience and a specialisation in PCB design.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in electronics hardware design and product development.
