The Opportunity

A leading UK-based technology services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to play a critical role in the delivery, design, and support of enterprise-grade network and security solutions for thier public sector client. This Senior Network Engineer position offers the opportunity to operate as a trusted technical authority while influencing service quality, solution design, and continuous improvement initiatives.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will function as a subject matter expert, combining deep technical expertise with strong customer engagement skills to ensure successful outcomes and long-term client satisfaction.

The Role

The Senior Network Engineer will take a lead role in the implementation, optimisation, and ongoing support of complex network and security environments. You will mentor colleagues, contribute to best practices, and help shape technical standards while working closely with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

This Senior Network Engineer role requires strong hands on experience across enterprise networking, security, and modern software defined technologies, along with a passion for continuous learning and emerging solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted technical advisor and Senior Network Engineer for enterprise customers
• Design, implement, and support secure, resilient network solutions
• Operate as a subject matter expert, reviewing and improving solution designs
• Lead complex network and security implementations, including testing and change control
• Deliver LAN, WAN, WLAN, data centre, and security solutions aligned to best practices
• Ensure compliance with relevant security standards and regulations
• Produce high quality technical and design documentation
• Collaborate with vendors and partners on emerging technologies
• Participate in a 24x7 on call rota
• Contribute to innovation, service improvement, and knowledge sharing across the team

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Senior Network Engineer or equivalent enterprise role
• CCNP level networking expertise (certification or demonstrable experience)
• CCSP level security knowledge (certification or demonstrable experience)
• Strong experience with Cisco technologies: LAN, WAN, WLAN, SDA, SD WAN, ISE, DNAC, ACI
• Experience with Fortinet technologies: FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiWireless, FortiSASE
• WAN technologies including MPLS, Internet, L2VPNs, and access technologies
• Cyber security solutions: firewalls, IPS, UTM/UTP, SASE, ZTNA, cloud security
• Enterprise customer facing experience (commercial, public sector, or government)
• Strong documentation skills using Visio, Word, and Excel
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable Experience

• Advanced Cisco or Fortinet certifications
• Software defined networking (SD WAN, SDA)
• Scripting and automation (Python, Ansible)
• Public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
• Experience in managed services or support environments
