Job Description

Our client operates a complex and dynamic network infrastructure encompassing both large-scale data center fabrics and a geographically distributed backbone network. Their data centers utilize a state-of-the-art architecture, primarily leveraging NVIDIA and Arista switching hardware. This environment demands expertise in modern data center networking principles, including advanced routing protocols, network segmentation, and high-availability designs. We are heavily invested in InfiniBand technology for high-performance computing and utilize NVIDIA networking devices extensively within our data center fabric.

The backbone network interconnects these data centers and various points of presence, relying primarily on Juniper routing platforms with the recent addition of Cisco equipment. This multi-vendor environment requires adaptability and a solid understanding of BGP, MPLS, and other core routing technologies. The teams are actively working towards a more vendor-agnostic approach, prioritizing experience and problem-solving skills over specific vendor certifications. The network team is responsible for the core routing infrastructure, while the security team manages firewalls and related security appliances.

Team and Daily Tasks:

The Network Infrastructure department consists of 25 individuals divided into specialized teams, including a 7-member DC Network team, a dedicated automation and tooling team, an enterprise network team responsible for office environments, and a US-based IT Data Center team. The DC Network team, which this role is a part of, is currently undergoing a transition to a more international composition, with English being the primary language for documentation and technical communication.

Daily responsibilities encompass a mix of operational support and project-based work. Operational tasks include maintaining the existing infrastructure, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers and backbone network. Project work ranges from team-driven initiatives, such as implementing new network designs and technologies, to business-driven projects like supporting the launch of new data center sites and points of presence. The team is actively involved in a large-scale effort to decentralize the network team's operations, aligning with a follow-the-sun support model. This involves deconstructing and rebuilding components of a complex network structure, requiring expertise in both maintaining existing systems and innovating for future growth. Candidates should be prepared to work with both cutting-edge and legacy equipment, as we continue to modernize our infrastructure.

Required Skills:

We are seeking experienced Network Engineers with a strong background in at least two of the following three domains:

  • Data Center Networking: Extensive experience with large-scale data center fabrics, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with NVIDIA and Arista switching platforms is highly desirable. A deep understanding of data center routing protocols and network virtualization technologies is essential.
  • Backbone/External Routing: Expertise in BGP, MPLS, and other core routing protocols. Experience with Juniper and Cisco routing platforms is preferred. A strong understanding of internetworking principles and large-scale network design is required.
  • Automation/Linux: Familiarity with Linux operating systems and scripting languages like Python. Experience with network automation tools and techniques is a significant plus. A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies is essential.

While vendor-specific certifications are not strictly required, candidates must demonstrate a deep understanding of networking concepts and the ability to apply them in a multi-vendor environment. Experience working in complex, high-availability network environments is crucial. We value problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools is also highly beneficial.
