Senior Network Engineer - Financial Trading

We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join an established network engineering team on an initial 3-6 month contract engagement.

The successful engineer will work alongside two existing senior network engineers, helping to share responsibility across both project delivery and operational support. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical capability, particularly within low-latency network environments and Arista technologies.

The environment requires someone who can operate independently at a senior level, take ownership of network changes and project activity, and provide support for critical network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver network infrastructure projects from implementation through to production.
• Support and maintain highly available, business-critical network environments.
• Work with low-latency network infrastructure, ensuring performance, resilience and stability.
• Configure, deploy and troubleshoot Arista networking technologies.
• Plan and execute network changes, upgrades and migrations.
• Diagnose and resolve complex network incidents and performance issues.
• Work collaboratively with the existing senior network engineering team.
• Participate in planned out-of-hours and weekend implementation/support work where required.
• Produce and maintain appropriate technical and operational documentation.
• Ensure network changes are delivered in a controlled manner with appropriate testing, validation and rollback planning.
• Provide senior-level technical input into network design and implementation decisions.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong experience working as a Senior Network Engineer in complex enterprise or mission-critical environments.
• Demonstrable experience with low-latency networking.
• Strong hands-on experience with Arista Switches and Arista EOS.
• Excellent understanding of core networking principles and protocols, including:
  • TCP/IP
  • BGP
  • OSPF
  • VLANs and switching
  • Routing
  • Multicast
  • Network resilience and high availability
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
• Experience delivering production network changes within controlled environments.
• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of technical issues through to resolution.
• Experience balancing project delivery with operational/BAU support.
• Comfortable working outside normal business hours when required for planned changes or support activity.
• Experience of network desigin, implementation and support across the following network environments;
  • Financial services
  • Electronic trading
  • Market data
  • Trading infrastructure
  • High-frequency or low-latency environments
• Experience with network automation, monitoring, performance analysis or infrastructure-as-code would also be beneficial.
