Job Description

An established and growing engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Cork based team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated mechanical engineer with strong HVAC design experience to play a key role in the delivery of large scale commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, and mission critical projects.

The successful candidate will lead mechanical building services design activities from concept through to project delivery, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients across a range of high profile projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems with a strong focus on HVAC design.
  • Prepare detailed mechanical design calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Develop HVAC system concepts including heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning, and associated plant systems.
  • Coordinate with electrical, architectural, structural, and external design teams throughout project lifecycle.
  • Attend client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Irish, UK, and international standards and regulations.
  • Support project delivery teams during procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and technical submissions.
  • Manage project deliverables to meet agreed timelines and budgets.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 6+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering within building services or consultancy environments.
  • Strong HVAC design experience is essential.
  • Experience working on commercial, pharmaceutical, industrial, healthcare, or data centre projects is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in industry standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems design, energy efficiency, and sustainability principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Chartered status or progress toward chartership would be advantageous.
