Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Bristol

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

Our Client is an ambitious advanced manufacturing company with game changing technology that will enable manufacturers in the aeronautics, automotive and space sectors to reduce significantly, the weight and improve the efficiency of their products

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the research, development, and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes for composite materials. Working alongside a team of experts, you will be responsible for optimizing existing processes, driving innovation, and leading projects from conception to completion.

What will you be doing?

  • Research and Development: Lead and contribute to research initiatives aimed at exploring new composite manufacturing techniques, materials, and technologies. Stay abreast of industry advancements and emerging trends to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
  • Process Optimization: Evaluate and enhance existing manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce production costs, and improve product quality. Implement lean manufacturing principles to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers and materials scientists, to develop new composite products. Participate in design reviews, providing valuable input to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and tools. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and calibrated for consistent and reliable production.
  • Project Management: Take ownership of assigned projects, defining project scopes, timelines, and deliverables. Track project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to meet project goals.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians in best practices for composite manufacturing. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment to inspire continuous learning and growth.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and relevant codes in all manufacturing processes.

What do we need from you?

  • We appreciate relevant engineering qualifications, but we equally value practical hands on experience.
  • Experience working within the advanced composites manufacturing sector is highly beneficial.
  • Proven expertise in composite materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Strong background in composite materials testing, characterization, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and engineering simulation tools.
  • Experience with project management and demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

We've completed multiple technology validation programmes (with the European Space Agency, Airbus, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, F1 Teams) and are in the process of executing on the first production opportunities with leading OEMs. We're edging towards becoming a significant scale-up with growth plans that will see the business multiply in size over the next 2-3 years and expand operations into Europe and the US!
