Job Description
Senior Mechanical Consultant (Energy) Dublin

A leading engineering consultancy is continuing to grow its energy and power generation capability and is now seeking a Senior Mechanical Consultant (Energy) to join its Dublin-based team. With a strong track record across Ireland and the UK, the consultancy is investing in senior technical expertise to support a growing portfolio of thermal power and energy infrastructure projects.

This is a senior technical role offering a balance of engineering design, technical leadership and project management, with a particular emphasis on rotating plant and thermal systems. The position would suit an experienced mechanical engineer who enjoys combining hands on technical work with client facing project delivery.

Your new role as Senior Mechanical Consultant (Energy)

As Senior Mechanical Consultant, you will play a key role in the delivery of complex energy projects, supporting clients across the full project lifecycle from early feasibility through to commissioning and operational handover.

  • Leading and contributing to the design and assessment of rotating plant including gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, and balance of plant systems.
  • Delivering mechanical engineering input on thermal power, CHP and energy from gas projects.
  • Managing technical workstreams across feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, due diligence, and commissioning support.
  • Undertaking performance analysis, system modelling and efficiency assessments of energy generation assets.
  • Acting as a technical advisor to clients, supporting investment decisions, regulatory submissions and project approvals.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams across electrical, civil, process and environmental disciplines.
  • Supporting project management activities, including programme development, risk identification and stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the ongoing development of the consultancy's energy capability.
What you'll need to succeed as Senior Mechanical Consultant (Energy)

To be considered for this role, you should demonstrate:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Process or Energy Engineering (or closely related discipline).
  • Strong experience in energy generation or thermal power projects, ideally with exposure to rotating plant.
  • Solid technical knowledge of thermal systems, including gas turbines, steam cycles and CHP technologies.
  • Experience across project lifecycle delivery, from early studies through to execution and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with energy regulations, permitting requirements and commercial drivers within the power sector.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working in client facing consultancy roles.
  • The ability to balance detailed engineering with broader project and commercial considerations.
What's in it for you?

In return, you'll join a respected consultancy delivering technically challenging and meaningful energy projects.

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Annual bonus of up to 20%.
  • Car allowance, private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Involvement in landmark energy and infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK.
  • A technically diverse role with genuine scope for career progression and leadership development.
  • A collaborative consultancy environment that values expertise, autonomy and professional growth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior mechanical engineer who wants to deepen their expertise in rotating plant and thermal power, while taking on greater influence across project delivery and client engagement.
