Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a 7 years PQE UK Solicitor with extensive Insurance experience in Private Practice and ideally in-house, to take on the role of Senior Legal Counsel for a high-profile London Insurance market broker.

The focus of the role is to manage a wide range of legal matters across the business and to lead a small team of Lawyers and Paralegals.

The aim is to lead and manage the team, partnering with the insurance and reinsurance business of the client, providing technically accurate and commercially focused legal advice, and to minimise legal risk and reputational damage.

Reporting to the General Counsel, the responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting and managing a small team of lawyers and paralegals, ensuring the smooth handling of legal tasks and providing guidance on escalated matters.
  2. Acting as an escalation point for complex legal queries from the UK and cross-border teams.
  3. Ensuring efficient handling of legal matters, including process improvements.
  4. Liaising with Group stakeholders and legal functions for escalated matters.

This role may suit someone looking to take on team management responsibilities and who can create effective processes.

This is a great opportunity for a UK qualified solicitor with substantial insurance experience, gained in private practice and in-house (likely a minimum of 7 years PQE).

We are looking for someone who has/is:

  1. A pragmatic, commercially minded lawyer capable of managing insurance-related legal matters efficiently, including cross-border issues.
  2. Expertise in insurance law and regulation, especially with a London Market focus.
  3. Some experience dealing with E&O claims against insurance brokers or professionals is useful.
  4. Prior leadership or team management experience is desirable but not essential.

The client offers a salary up to £140,000 plus excellent benefits. The role features hybrid working, with in-office presence 1-2 days per week (more if preferred).
