Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse
We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse to join the Intensive Support Team in Suffolk.
As an all-age service, we welcome applicants with experience working with adults or children with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism.
The Intensive Support Team is part of the Acute Service, collaborating with the Assessment and Treatment Inpatient Unit co-located in Ipswich.
The role involves supporting the prevention of admissions or care breakdown by understanding the functions of challenging behaviors, using Applied Behavioral Analysis and Positive Behavioral Support approaches.
We also facilitate timely and secure discharges from inpatient units by working across hospital services.
The team is part of the Learning Disability and Autism Pathway, which adopts a fresh approach to service delivery. We are a vibrant, creative, multidisciplinary team that works closely with statutory, private, and voluntary sector services.
Main duties of the jobFollowing induction, the main duties include:
- Participating in functional assessments of behavior
- Analyzing assessment findings
- Formulating conclusions and recommendations
- Working directly with individuals in their homes or hospital settings
- Reviewing risk assessments and crisis responses
- Supporting carers and families in implementing recommendations, including delivering training
- Acting as Shift Co-ordinator, ensuring smooth shift operations, delegating duties, and reviewing risks

Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work directly with service users across Suffolk in various settings, including homes, hospitals, and educational provisions. Building relationships with carers, service users, and professionals is key, along with conducting assessments and formulating intervention strategies to improve quality of life.
Supervisory responsibilities for Clinical Support Workers or Assistant Practitioners may be included.

Person Specification Qualifications- Nursing degree or equivalent (RMN or Learning Disabilities)
- Evidence of social care/health-related study
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in learning disabilities and community settings
- Experience working with individuals with Autism
- Ability to process, plan, and delegate work effectively
- Up-to-date knowledge of Person-Centred Care
- Understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
This post requires a DBS check, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975.
Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year (gross, pro-rata)
