Senior IBM z/OS Mainframe Consultant - RSE API/VS Code Integration

Nicholas Bernard is seeking a highly experienced IBM z/OS Mainframe Consultant for a short-term engagement with a major banking client in Belgium.

The client is preparing to roll out Visual Studio Code (VS Code) to its Mainframe development teams and requires a specialist to establish secure connectivity between VS Code and its existing IBM z/OS environment.

The consultant will be responsible for installing, configuring and enabling the IBM Remote System Explorer (RSE) API, including the necessary dependent components, to support IBM Application Delivery Foundation for z/OS (ADFz) tooling.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure and enable the IBM RSE API on z/OS.

• Establish secure connectivity between Visual Studio Code and the IBM z/OS Mainframe environment.

• Configure the necessary components and dependencies to support IBM ADFz tools, including Debugger, File Manager and User Build capabilities.

• Ensure the solution follows IBM best practices and banking security standards.

• Troubleshoot connectivity, installation and configuration issues.

• Provide expert technical guidance to the client's experienced Mainframe team.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive hands-on experience with IBM z/OS Mainframe environments.

• Proven experience installing and configuring IBM RSE API on z/OS - essential.

• Experience integrating Visual Studio Code with IBM Mainframe development environments.

• Strong knowledge of IBM Application Delivery Foundation for z/OS (ADFz).

• Familiarity with IBM Debugger, File Manager and User Build functionality.

• Experience implementing secure Mainframe connectivity in enterprise environments.

• Ability to work independently and provide specialist guidance to highly experienced Mainframe engineers.

This is a highly specialised, short-term assignment requiring approximately 20 hours of consultancy.

The client's existing Mainframe team has over 30 years of experience and requires someone who has previously completed an RSE API installation and configuration, rather than a general Mainframe consultant.

The assignment is expected to be delivered remotely, although occasional onsite attendance in Belgium may be requested.
