As a Senior Environmental Specialist (Utilities & Assurance) at HS2 you will be responsible for managing and implementing the environmental requirements of HS2acrossConstruction andUtilitiesContractsto ensure the long-term sustainability of the HS2 project and to manage its impact on the environment, including adherence to regulatory requirements. The roleprovides support to the Head of Environmental Deliveryin the reportingof contractor'senvironmentalperformanceand the development and implementation of HS2's risk-based assuranceandis responsible forsupporting ondischarge of Undertakings and assurances.

About the role:
- Provide leadership on Environment and Sustainabilityacross theConstruction andUtilities contracts, directing and coordinating the provision of technical advice and approaches to assure compliance of works undertaken.
- The role willbe responsible forensuring HS2 Ltd discharges its Nominated Undertaker responsibilities andcomplying withthe EMRs and General Principles and U&As.
- The role willbe responsible fordevelopment and delivery of a risk-based assurance model for of the HS2Construction andUtilitiesContracts,evidencingcompliance with HS2s Environmental and Sustainability requirements, the law and consents, licences or permissionsrequired.
- Work closely with the MWCC IPT Heads of Engineering and Environment to manage the technical interface between the Main Works Civils andUtilitiescontracts. This will include managing and agreeing technical capability is released in controlled manner from IPTs to support the deliveryenvironmentalassurance ofUtilitiesworks.
- Encourage use of best practice and drive consistency in the application of HS2 environment processes, policies, standards, and requirements acrossConstruction and Utilities Contracts.
- Assistwith the provision of functional responses to requests made underConstruction and Utilities Contracts(e.g. Departures, RFI, Early Warnings)
- The role will support theUtilitiesinterface with key environmental statutory and key environmental stakeholders.
- Support Technical Directorate in defining technical environmental requirements for works delivered by HS2's contract partners.
- Support the business reporting cycle ensure environmental risks, performance and issues are communicated withinUtilities.
- Monitor and report environment & sustainability assessment and assurance outcomes withinConstruction and Utilities Contractsand provide regular status reports to the Head of Environmental Deliveryand the other stakeholders.
- Support responses to environmentally themed enquiries from the public and other stakeholders under Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations, on behalf ofConstruction and Utilities. This includes Ministerial queries, Parliamentary questions, and media enquiries.
- Support the identification and management ofConstruction and Utilities basedenvironmental risks (threats and opportunities).
- Assistwith the inclusion of technical environmental requirements into relevant procurement activities and provide review and assurance of the procurement activities.
- Champion the environmental aspects of theUtilitiesprogramme and build andmaintainstrong relationships with stakeholders, relevant Government Departments, the public and other interested parties to gain their buy-in and inputrequiredto achieve environmental requirements.

Experience:
- Experienceofworking to multi-disciplinary standards and managing environmentalactivity on major projects/ programmes within multi-discipline project teams.

- Experience ofenvironmental projectmanagement gained across a range of environmental disciplines and processes.
- Experience ofassuring environmental management systems, reporting,designsand construction activities.
- Experience of stakeholder management including external stakeholders such asconsent granting bodies and sponsors.
