Contract Type: Permanent

Closing Date: 1 March 2026

The Role

The Senior Environmental Educator is a key member of the Calshot Activities Centre day to day management team, leading the development and delivery of high quality environmental education while actively contributing to the wider operational needs of the centre. The postholder shapes innovative, curriculum aligned programmes that deepen learners' understanding of climate change, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Alongside their leadership of environmental learning, they provide professional support to staff, contribute to safe and effective daily operations, and play an important role in strengthening the centre's reputation as a leader in outdoor and environmental education within Hampshire Outdoor Centres.

What you'll do

You'll lead the design and delivery of inspiring environmental education programmes at Calshot Activities Centre, ensuring they are engaging, progressive, and aligned with Hampshire County Council's Climate Strategy. As part of the centre's day to day management team, you'll balance educational leadership with wider operational responsibilities to help keep activities, facilities, and services running safely and smoothly. You'll provide professional guidance to Environmental Educators, champion sustainability across the centre, and build strong partnerships with schools, community groups, and sector organisations. You'll also play a key role in shaping future development-supporting staff, driving new initiatives, and ensuring environmental education remains a valued part of Calshot's offer.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a relevant degree or substantial experience in delivering environmental programmes, supported by a D1 Minibus Licence. You'll have strong experience in environmental education, with the ability to plan and deliver engaging school and fieldwork programmes from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, and a solid understanding of the National Curriculum and the value of outdoor learning. You'll bring up to date knowledge of sustainability practice, carbon literacy, and environmental policy, and be able to translate these into meaningful learning experiences and practical operational decisions. Confident in leading, training, and motivating staff, you'll also be able to work independently, prioritise effectively, and make sound decisions under pressure. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work professionally with a wide range of stakeholders. You'll be proficient in MS Word and Excel, able to handle sensitive information responsibly, and comfortable analysing challenges, suggesting improvements, and implementing change. Experience of managing teams or departments is important, and it's an advantage if you hold instructional qualifications, have taught in coastal or tidal environments, built partnerships, organised community focused events, or used digital platforms to enhance learning and operations.
