This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.The Development Engineering organisation is responsible for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. It provides the data and evidence required to support the development and delivery of the power station through verification, testing, demonstration and research and technology programmes. This spans the full range of engineering and operational functions required to deliver a major new nuclear plant.Development Engineering consists of four capability areas: Research & Technology, Verification & Validation, Test, and Commissioning. Reporting to the Test Capability Manager, Test Capability Engineers develop and maintain the processes, tools and capability needed to deliver high quality test programmes across the SMR programme. About the Role: As a Senior Engineer - Test Capability, you will lead the development, enhancement and governance of the tools, processes and methods that enable robust, safe and efficient delivery of engineering test programmes. You will help ensure that tests executed across the Development supply chain generate the right evidence to support system design, verification and validation, and overall programme assurance.You will coach and support other Test Capability Engineers, technically review their outputs, and shape the capability strategy for the function. You will work closely with Subject Matter Experts, project teams and suppliers to ensure that test activities are correctly scoped, well governed and aligned with design and safety requirements. You will also play a crucial role in integrating test processes and digital tools across the business to achieve right first time delivery. We'll Need You To: Create and implement integrated test processes, methods, tools and standards that support successful delivery of test programmes Support strategic internal and external resource planning to meet business priorities Collaborate with SMEs and capability engineers to ensure technical excellence across Development Engineering Provide technical coaching, mentoring and constructive review to ensure consistent, high quality team outputs Support integration of test tools and processes with wider business systems Ensure technical quality, competency and safety within the Development supply chain Support monitoring and performance management of test suppliers Contribute to digital process improvements, including low code solutions and data/automation tools Key Skills Required: We know there's no such thing as the 'perfect' candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, we'd love to hear from you: Experience defining, planning and delivering test programmes to support design development, verification or validation Background in safety critical or regulated industries (nuclear desirable but not essential) Experience delivering engineering projects to time, cost and quality requirements Ability to develop design concepts, document requirements and contribute to design definition Experience producing engineering documentation such as test specifications, calculations, drawings, P&IDs and technical reports Experience improving processes, methods and tools, including developing functional strategies Familiarity with digital tools such as PowerApps, Power Automate, Azure DevOps, Power BI, SharePoint or requirements management tools Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across multi disciplinary teams Systems thinking mindset with practical experience using structured systems engineering tools Ability to technically review work, provide constructive feedback and coach others Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience; professional recognition desirableWe welcome applicants from a wide range of sectors including nuclear, power generation, defence, aerospace, oil & gas and other high integrity industries. Location: Hybrid working with one of the following as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington Salary and Package: The salary band for this role will be between £50,650 - £66,500 depending on the skills, values and knowledge you bring.
