Job Description

Electrical Project Engineer Mullingar / Midlands Hybrid

(Considering both middle and senior level candidates with 3 - 10+ years post-qualification experience)

Meet the Employer

My client is a well-established electrical engineering and technical services company based in Mullingar, supporting major multinational manufacturing, pharmaceutical, utility, water/wastewater and critical infrastructure customers across Ireland. The business employs approximately 28 people and is entering an exciting growth phase. It has deep expertise in Variable Speed Drives, LV/MV electrical systems, motor control, Power Quality, electrical panel solutions, commissioning and lifecycle support. The company is known for long-standing customer relationships, strong technical capability and a practical, solutions-led approach.

The Role

This position will work closely with the Managing Director, a highly experienced client-facing Electrical Engineer and Project Manager who remains hands on with customer projects. The requirement is for someone with a similar blend of technical strength, project ownership and customer focus who can progressively take responsibility for projects and manage them through to successful completion. This is not a generic Project Manager position. The successful candidate must be technically credible, comfortable on large industrial sites and capable of understanding the customer's wider engineering and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities Electrical Project Delivery & Project Management
  • Deliver electrical engineering projects from initial enquiry and site survey through scope definition, design, build, commissioning, handover and close-out
  • Manage the full project lifecycle including planning, scheduling, technical follow-through, stakeholder coordination, customer communication and delivery expectations
  • Develop clear scopes of work and translate customer requirements into practical engineering and project delivery plans
  • Coordinate internal design, technical support, workshop, field service and project delivery resources
  • Support site surveys, technical risk and constructability reviews, FAT/SAT activity, commissioning planning and customer handover
  • Take ownership of issues and drive projects to a successful technical and commercial conclusion
Applications Support & Technical Review
  • Provide electrical applications support and technical guidance for site specific industrial projects
  • Review electrical drawings, single line diagrams, panel designs, motor control arrangements, controls interfaces and project specifications
  • Work closely with experienced in house design engineers; oversee and challenge design appropriately without needing to be the principal detailed designer
  • Apply strong LV electrical knowledge, with MV exposure considered a significant advantage
Customer & Commercial Focus
  • Engage directly with customers to understand technical constraints, process requirements, downtime risk and delivery priorities
  • Build trusted customer relationships through technical credibility, reliability, communication and strong follow through
  • Provide practical, solutions focused engineering input and identify opportunities where the business can add further value
  • Support technical sales activity where required, including early stage assessment, solution development and technical clarification
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Approximately 3-10 years' electrical engineering experience, ideally within industrial, manufacturing or utility environments
  • Ideally at least 3 years' Project Engineering / Project Management experience with ownership of electrical project delivery
  • Full project lifecycle experience - from initial scope and planning through delivery, commissioning and handover
  • Experience working on large, technically demanding industrial or utility sites; multinational manufacturing experience is particularly relevant
  • Strong LV electrical engineering knowledge and ability to interpret drawings, single line diagrams, specifications and customer requirements
  • Proven customer facing experience with strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Level 8 Electrical Engineering qualification preferred; strong relevant experience and an alternative technical route may also be considered
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites
Desirable
  • Motor control, Variable Speed Drives, industrial control panels, electrical protection or controls experience
  • Power Quality, water/wastewater, pharmaceutical, data centre or complex retrofit project experience
The Environment & Package
  • Hybrid role - after onboarding, expected to be approximately 50% customer sites and 50% working from home
  • This is a key hire, and a very competitive salary will be paid (based on experience) with progression prospects as the company invests in their growth plan.
  • Company car - Toyota RAV4 or similar
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • Ideally based within approximately one hour of Mullingar; Leinster and the Midlands will be the key travel region, with some nationwide customer travel
  • First couple of months likely to involve 2-3 days per week in Mullingar while getting up to speed; thereafter typically around 1 day per week as required
  • Excellent opportunity to increase project ownership and progress with a growing specialist engineering business
