Senior Ecologist Manchester or Sheffield Hybrid Working

My client, an established and highly regarded UK environmental consultancy, is looking to appoint a Senior Ecologist to its growing Land and Nature team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist who is ready to take on greater responsibility while continuing to develop technically. You'll join a supportive team with an excellent reputation and work across a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary projects throughout the UK. The position can be based from either Manchester or Sheffield, with flexible hybrid working.

The Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you'll take responsibility for delivering ecological projects from fieldwork through to assessment and reporting, while also supporting the development of more junior members of the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting ecological surveys and assessments
• Managing a varied portfolio of ecology projects
• Preparing and reviewing high-quality technical reports
• Providing technical advice to clients and multidisciplinary project teams
• Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists
• Contributing to project planning, proposals and tenders
• Managing project programmes and priorities
• Developing strong relationships with existing clients
• Contributing to the continued growth of the ecology team
• Developing your own technical specialisms and areas of interest

You'll be given the autonomy to take ownership of your work while having access to experienced colleagues and ongoing technical support.

About You

You'll already have good experience within ecological consultancy and a strong understanding of UK habitats, protected species and relevant environmental legislation.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• A relevant ecology, environmental science or biological sciences degree
• Good professional experience within ecological consultancy
• Experience undertaking habitat and protected species assessments
• Strong technical report-writing skills
• The ability to manage projects with minimal supervision
• Experience reviewing work and maintaining high technical standards
• Confidence dealing directly with clients and other project stakeholders
• An interest in mentoring and developing junior colleagues
• A proactive and flexible approach to managing a varied workload
• Protected species survey or mitigation licences would be advantageous, as would full CIEEM membership
• Previous experience of business development, proposals or work winning would be useful but isn't essential
