Senior Network Security Engineer

Senior Network Security Engineer with a DevOps focus to support secure and resilient infrastructure within a public sector environment. Predominantly remote with occasional visits to London. Active SC clearance required, with out-of-hours support expected.

You will play a key role in securing, maintaining, and optimising network infrastructure, with a strong focus on Firewall technologies, network security, and high availability across critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure within a DevOps environment
• Manage and optimise Fortinet and Cisco Firewall solutions (policies, configurations, upgrades)
• Monitor network traffic, analyse logs, and troubleshoot security and connectivity issues
• Support incident response, providing expertise on Firewall and network-related events
• Ensure secure application communication across HTTP and WebSocket flows
• Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to support deployments and infrastructure changes
• Contribute to continuous improvement of security, networking, and DevOps practices
• Document configurations, processes, and best practices in line with governance standards
• Provide out-of-hours support and escalation when required

• Strong experience in DevOps or network security engineering
• Hands-on expertise with Fortinet and Cisco Firewall technologies
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, OSI model)
• Experience with network protocols, security principles, and threat mitigation
• Knowledge of HTTP and WebSocket communication flows
• Experience analysing logs, troubleshooting issues, and supporting production environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure environments is beneficial
