Job Description

Severn Trent is inviting applications for a Senior Design Engineer (Electrical). The role is based in Raynesway (Derby) and sits in our expanding major projects and bioresources waste treatment design team. Our design team shapes wastewater strategies, providing expert advice to lead projects from feasibility to detailed design to support Severn Trent goals.

We work with stakeholders, consultants and contractors to protect and enhance the quality of our waste treatment assets and rivers; interrogate and improve data systems; undertake investigations; and carry out outline designs to ensure we have robust evidence for sound decisions.

About the Role

Senior Design Engineer (Electrical)

You will be part of the in-house design team focused on delivering wastewater solutions and supporting the company's objectives. You will engage with internal and external partners to ensure high-quality design and delivery across projects.

Responsibilities
  • Sewage treatment assets - understand existing assets, complete risk assessments, undertake outline designs for new assets to meet business needs and undertake short-to-long-term investigations
  • Develop strategies to enhance existing assets and inform Price Review regulatory submissions; collaborate across the business to build river quality, sustainability and net zero carbon plans, influencing investment decisions
  • Carry out self-led research on emerging technologies, define innovative treatment options and collaborate internally and externally to promote new strategies
  • Promote ongoing waste treatment capital maintenance programme; ensure robust evidence-based understanding of site operations to maintain final effluent quality
  • Provide tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain availability and quality of waste treatment services
  • Ensure Health and Safety is integrated into the design lifecycle
  • Review potential delivery and operational risks (e.g., H&S, environmental, commissioning) through the design process
What you'll bring

You'll be degree qualified (desirable) and a member of one of the engineering Institutions or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, with Severn Trent keen to support you on this journey. Water industry background is useful but not essential; an engineering discipline is required.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be forward-thinking and capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. A full UK driving licence is required.

We value character, positivity and a caring attitude alongside relevant experience.
