About the RoleThe Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical, Civil, or Process) will be based in Raynesway (Derby). The role sits in our expanding major projects and bioresources waste treatment design team, shaping the wastewater strategies for the company and providing expert advice to lead projects from feasibility to detailed design.
Key Responsibilities- Sewage treatment assets - understanding existing assets, completing risk assessments, undertaking outline designs for new assets, and conducting short to long term complex investigations.
- Developing strategies to enhance existing assets and inform price review regulatory submissions, collaborating across the business as we build our river quality, sustainability, and net zero carbon plans and influence the transition away from traditional investment routes.
- Conducting self led research on emerging technologies, defining new innovative treatment options, and collaborating internally and externally to promote new strategies.
- Promoting the ongoing waste treatment capital maintenance programme; ensuring robust evidence based understanding of how the sites work to maintain final effluent quality.
- Providing tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of waste treatment services for customers.
- Ensuring Health and Safety are built into the lifecycle of the design.
- Assessing delivery and operational risks (e.g., H&S, environmental, commissioning) through the design process.
Degree qualified (desirable) and a member or actively working toward a chartered status within an engineering institution. Water industry background is advantageous but not essential; an engineering discipline is required.
Excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people, forward thinking to anticipate challenges and respond to change in a rapidly evolving environment, and a full UK driving licence.
