PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £65,000 - £80,000 (including London weighting). Salary dependent on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the RoleThe AI Creative Lab within BBC Studios Global Content is an initiative designed to supercharge innovation across our global content portfolio. Supporting Scripted, Unscripted, Global Productions, Audio, and Kids & Family, the Lab will shape bespoke creative solutions while responsibly and adventurously embracing rapidly emerging technologies.
Reporting to the Head of AI Creative Lab, you will bring technical and creative expertise to lead the development of new AI/ML integrations and future focused creative and production workflows. Working with genre leads and production teams, you will help identify challenges and design bespoke AI (and any other necessary emerging technology) solutions and workflows, ensuring we are at the forefront of responsibly and effectively supporting and delivering outstanding storytelling.

You will inspire leaders and teams to boldly and responsibly experiment with AI, and develop practical, creative solutions which help us set the standard for responsible, ambitious, principled use of AI.
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact- Lead the development, testing and evaluation of cutting edge AI/ML tools, services, models, and workflows to enable or enhance content creation across television, audio, film, social, and immersive formats
- Partner with the Head of the Lab, and Genre leads to identify challenges and create a roadmap for solutions
- Deliver AI/ML solutions through hands on rapid application of R&D and assembly of market and vendor tools and services, to rapidly prototype creative technology solutions at production quality; smartly delegating duties to more junior members of staff to continually ensure rapid delivery
- To be responsible for data management and governance around responsible use of AI/ML within creative environments
- Translate creative challenges into technical solutions, communicating options and constraints clearly and regularly; continuously research emerging tools, services and methods to keep BBC Studios at the forefront of AI driven creative innovation
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Extensive experience applying AI/ML within media production, VFX, gaming, animation, or similar technology driven creative environments, with a strong understanding of how these technologies support real world creative workflows; experience/knowledge of markerless mocap and virtual production required
- Advanced technical capability across Python, PyTorch, Hugging Face, n8n, fal or similar, AWS, Claude Code, Gemini, ChatGPT, Node, React, and similar frameworks, combined with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
- Experience of working in a senior engineering or creative technologist capacity, with ownership of workflows and responsibility for motivating others and delivering bespoke AI/ML solutions against tight deadlines and high creative ambition
- Experience of working in an environment which is subject to constant and last minute change. Evidence of a resilient and positive approach to creative problem solving
- Demonstrated hands on prototyping ability, with a track record of rapidly building functional, artist friendly tools suitable for live production, using iterative or agile approaches
- Practical experience using AI/ML for content generation, animation, motion, compositing, including model evaluation, fine tuning, data preparation, and orchestration, benchmarking and combining models and services effectively
