Senior Contracts & Compliance Manager

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts & Compliance Manager with a minimum of 5 6 years experience in a similar position within the construction industry, ideally within a consultancy environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of contracts, providing commercial and contractual advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with service leads, project directors and wider project teams, you will provide practical, commercially focused advice and act as a trusted business partner. You will also support the organisation across regulatory, operational and quality compliance.
Key Responsibilities Contracts & Commercial Support- Review industry-standard contracts, including NEC forms, identifying key risks, responsibilities and compliance requirements.
- Work with external legal advisers where required to address contractual and legal matters.
- Lead routine commercial and contractual negotiations within delegated authority.
- Escalate significant commercial or legal risks to senior leadership or external legal advisers as appropriate.
- Ensure project teams understand their contractual obligations by providing clear contract summaries and guidance.
- Provide ongoing contractual clarification and support throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate records of contract negotiations and signed agreements.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve operational compliance processes.
- Provide clear and practical guidance to project teams on compliance requirements and best practice.
- Act as a trusted adviser to project teams and senior leadership on compliance matters.
- Ensure compliance information, processes and documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Monitor relevant UK regulatory developments and translate changes into practical guidance and process improvements.
- Prioritise compliance activities based on organisational risk, project priorities and business requirements.
- Lead due diligence and onboarding checks for subcontractors and subconsultants.
- Manage IR35 status assessments for contractors.
- Support compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including the CDM Regulations 2015.
- Monitor relevant health and safety requirements, coordinate actions and escalate significant risks where necessary.
- Work with relevant health and safety stakeholders to promote a strong culture of safety, accountability and compliance.
- Conduct internal compliance reviews and assessments as required.
- Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to processes, templates and guidance.
- Develop straightforward reporting to provide leadership with visibility of key risks and compliance performance.
- Support project teams in making proportionate, risk-based compliance decisions where requirements are unclear or competing obligations exist.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of governance and assurance frameworks.
- Provide practical training, guidance and support to project teams and relevant stakeholders.
- Help colleagues understand both what is required and why compliance is important.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and good governance.
- Support the development of capability and knowledge across the organisation.
The successful candidate will be someone who:
- Has 5 6+ years experience in contracts, commercial or compliance management within the construction or consultancy sector.
- Has strong knowledge of construction contracts, including NEC forms.
- Understands UK regulatory, compliance and health and safety requirements.
- Has experience managing contractual risk and commercial negotiations.
- Understands IR35 requirements and contractor compliance.
- Has experience with supply chain due diligence and onboarding processes.
- Can interpret complex contractual and regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, practical guidance.
- Has strong risk management, governance and assurance skills.
- Is confident working with senior stakeholders, project directors and external advisers.
- Can challenge constructively and make proportionate, risk-based decisions.
- Is highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Builds positive and effective relationships across teams and with external partners.
- Is confident providing guidance, training and support to colleagues.
- Has experience managing or developing others and encouraging continuous improvement.
