Reporting To: Michael Mackay

Compensation: £90,000 - £105,000 / year

Description

Role Overview

Core to Field's mission is developing and constructing energy storage assets. We seek a dynamic individual to manage transmission-connected BESS projects through pre-construction, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover to Operations. The initial focus will be a UK project, specifically a 200MW project starting construction at the end of the year.

You will report directly to our Head of Construction (Michael) and collaborate closely with our in-house Project Engineers, BoP Contractors, BESS Suppliers, and the TO. Internal support will be provided by specialists in health and safety, grid-code, battery systems, planning, procurement, legal, and contract management. You will also lead onboarding of additional resources needed for Field's largest project to date.

You should have a strong project delivery background with significant experience in grid-connected energy projects, especially at transmission level. BESS experience is beneficial but not essential if you have delivered similar projects in other technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Managing the pre-construction phase, including:
    • Leading the internal project team towards Final Investment Decision (FID), focusing on programme
    • Supporting planning discharge activities and landowner engagement
    • Collaborating with the design team for value engineering
    • Supporting procurement and legal teams during tenders and negotiations
    • Leading early works packages for long lead-time equipment
    • Preparing contractual documents and updating risk register, schedule, and budget
    • Ensuring team alignment on actions, timescales, and responsibilities
  2. Managing the construction phase to meet time, quality, and budget targets:
    • Promoting health & safety culture
    • Managing construction contracts and packages
    • Delivering responsibilities outlined in employer's requirements and interface matrix
    • Maintaining project management documentation
  3. Ensuring seamless project transition to commercial operation:
    • Developing commissioning and energisation plans
    • Coordinating revenue readiness activities
    • Understanding schedule impacts on revenue streams
    • Supporting procurement and asset management onboarding
    • Managing close-out of defects and final accounts
  4. Line management responsibilities (if applicable):
    • Shaping workload and priorities for team members
    • Supporting career development and providing feedback

Essential Skills

  • Experience delivering at least 2 onshore renewable energy projects through to construction for a client/developer
  • Strong project leadership skills and pride in documentation
  • Ability to line-manage and develop other project managers
  • Pragmatic approach to health, safety, and quality
  • Strong commercial understanding and contract management experience, including FIDIC contracts
  • Knowledge of construction safety law and CDM regulations
  • Ability to foster collaborative project environments

Helpful Skills (one of these is critical)

  • Experience in pre-construction or pre-FID phase of renewable projects
  • Specific experience on BESS projects
  • Experience with project-finance requirements and liaising with lenders
