Senior Commercial Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially-minded Senior Commercial Manager to lead and drive complex, high-value programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full life cycle of major contracts, from negotiation to successful delivery, while managing key stakeholder relationships and ensuring project outcomes align with strategic business objectives. This role requires a professional with a proven track record in the defence and/or public sector, with a deep understanding of large-scale construction contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Drive programme discussions and key decisions, providing strategic direction and commercial oversight for high-value contracts.
  • Commercial Management: Conduct thorough contract analysis, risk analysis, and gap analysis. Evaluate financial costs versus potential rewards to drive commercially sound decisions.
  • Stakeholder & Team Management: Cultivate and manage senior-level stakeholder relationships. Lead and manage a diverse team, ensuring clear communication and effective collaboration.
  • Contract Negotiation & Approval: Lead and execute high-stakes contract negotiations. Manage and operate within strict approval frameworks to ensure all commercial agreements meet governance and compliance standards.
  • Programme & Financial Oversight: Oversee the entire programme from a commercial and financial perspective. Ensure end-client protection is a priority throughout all phases of the contract.
  • Adaptability & Outcomes: Exhibit a highly adaptable approach to navigate complex project environments. Demonstrate a track record of delivering successful outcomes, specifically with experience in construction contracts.
Skills & Experience:
  • Senior-level experience in stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Proven commercial and financial acumen, with a strong understanding of financial cost vs. reward analysis.
  • Extensive experience in contract analysis and negotiations, particularly on large-scale projects.
  • Experience in the defence and/or public sector, with a corresponding understanding of the sector's operational mentality.
  • A proven ability to lead and drive programme discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Knowledge of approval frameworks and their application in a commercial context.
  • Experience with risk analysis, gap analysis, and end-client protection.
  • Accreditations or a background in financial and commercial disciplines are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience managing multiple people and projects simultaneously.
  • Direct experience with construction contracts is essential.
