Senior Clinical Research Fellow (Christie Peter Mac)

Locally employed Doctor - Medical Oncology. Fixed term contract 12 months. Full time, 40 hours per week. Job ref 413 MD C OO A.

Location: Site Research & Development - A00181, Town Manchester. Salary £67,325 £76,582 per annum. Closing date 24/06/2026.

Job Overview

A unique 2 year clinical fellowship based between two world leading Phase I units: year 1 at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK; year 2 at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. The role is for an ambitious and innovative individual with an interest in early phase clinical trials and research.

Main Duties
  • Review new referrals, conduct follow ups, and manage patients throughout all aspects of their trial experience.
  • Participate as a sub investigator in a diverse portfolio of clinical research trials, including phase I trials of small molecule inhibitors, next generation chemotherapy trials, combination/multi modality phase I trials, advanced therapy trials, molecular characterisation, translational studies, and radiotherapy trials.
  • Attend safety review committee meetings and molecular tumour board meetings, liaise with Principal Investigators and external stakeholders such as CROs and pharmaceutical sponsors.
  • Perform administrative duties related to patient care and contribute to the development and planning of new studies.
  • Present research, author papers and reviews, and undergo annual appraisal.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and help train nursing and multidisciplinary staff.
Working Conditions

Clinical activity on seven days a week, including planned weekend work. The role involves full clinical services, patient safety and continuity of care.

Qualifications
  • Beginning specialist oncology training (ST3 or equivalent).
  • GMC registration.
  • Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology.
  • CCT in Medical or Clinical Oncology (or equivalent), Good Clinical Practice, Advanced Life Support, higher degree in cancer research.
  • Recent publications in peer reviewed journals and conference presentations.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Occupational Health clearance and Enhanced CRB clearance.
Experience
  • General oncology and internal medicine experience.
  • Experience in research or trials.
  • Evidence of clinical leadership skills.
  • Experience in developing, supervising and delivering audit projects.
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level; teaching qualification.
  • Phase I trials experience.
Personal Skills
  • Clinical skills and evidence of clinical competence.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, commitment, teamwork and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong motivation to develop team performance.
