Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

The closing date is 09 April 2026

West London Children's Healthcare is currently recruiting Senior Clinical Fellows in the field of Paediatric Emergency Medicine starting in September 2026 for 6 months (extendable) on a fixed-term contract.

This post is suitable for a trainee looking to further develop acute and emergency paediatric skills from either a paediatric or emergency medicine background. The post is solely based in the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) as part of a dedicated PED SpR rota whilst supporting a PED SHO rota. Senior supervision is delivered by 6 specialised Paediatric Emergency Consultants and a team of acute paediatric consultants who provide on-site, overnight cover in the PED. At the present time, the rota includes no night shifts.

Main duties of the job

The department currently provides training to both Paediatric and Emergency Medicine trainees from the London Deanery. It is a recognised RCPCH PEM training centre, being one of only five departments in the region providing specialist PEM GRID registrar training. The post has the same access to educational opportunities as our RCPCH PEM Grid trainees - this includes time to obtain orthopaedic, surgical, burns and anaesthetic exposure in keeping with the RCPCH/RCEM PEM Curriculum.

The unit is supported by a large inpatient paediatric unit, with most paediatric subspecialties represented on site. As the regional paediatric surgery and paediatric burns centre as well as a centre for gastroenterology, plastic surgery, ENT, orthopaedic, neurology and endocrinology, there is complex case mix and scope to gain considerable experience.

About us

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children's, in addition to a range of community based services across London, such as award winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We're one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We're also one of the top trusts to work for - our staff say they're engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as 'Good' in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, giving an us overall rating of 'Good'. We've also been awarded an 'Outstanding' rating for 'use of resources' by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children's unit at West Middlesex - in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
