Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is currently recruiting for experienced Clinical Fellows to join Paediatic Ophthalmology Department on a fixed term 12 months contract commencing in August 2026.
Main duties of the jobThis one year post will provide sub specialist training in all aspects of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, with excellent exposure to clinics and surgery. Adult strabismus sessions will be at the Oxford Eye Hospital.
In addition, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of care to patients in addition to the fixed clinical commitments of the weekly timetable, at the instruction of the supervising consultants.
The post holder will contribute to the postgraduate activities of the service, including teaching, presentation and publication.
The post is primarily based at Birmingham Children's Hospital, with the adult strabismus sessions at Oxford Eye Hospital and ROP screening and treatment at Birmingham Women's Hospital.

Person Specification- Full GMC Registration
- MBBS or Equivalent
- Higher Degree
- Experience in surgery of paediatric eye disease
- Experience in Managing Complex Paediatric Ophthalmic Cases
- Clinical Governance
- Involvement in the Clinical Audit process
- Experience of surgical training and supervision of ophthalmologist in training
- Research Experience & Relevant Publications
- Experience of participating in a specialist paediatric ophthalmology service.
- Evidence of speaking at national and international meetings
