Main duties of the job

We are advertising for four one-year Clinical Fellow posts in Proactive Care of Older People undergoing Surgery. This is a well established fellowship programme with consistently excellent feedback from previous post holders.

The successful applicants will work within the Department of Ageing and Health as part of the Perioperative Medicine for Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) service. POPS is an innovative and award winning service providing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA)-based care to older patients undergoing surgery. The role is based across both Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals.

Applicants may come from a range of clinical backgrounds, including geriatric medicine, acute/general medicine, or anaesthetics.

The post holder will contribute to preoperative CGA, development of care pathways, inpatient management on surgical wards, and training surgical teams in key geriatric related issues. The role includes participation in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings. There are likely to be on call duties as a medical registrar on a 1 in 8 rota for at least six months of the post.

The fellowship offers valuable experience in perioperative medicine, alongside opportunities to develop skills in service development, business planning, and project evaluation. Fellows will be expected to present and publish findings and will be supported to pursue research funding opportunities.
