The electrophysiology service at the Morriston Hospital are looking for the next Electrophysiology Fellow to join the department.

The post is due to commence in August 2026 for a 12 month period. The service has developed rapidly since its inception in 2007 and now delivers the largest volume of EP and implantable cardiac device care in Wales. The centre has EHRA accreditation as a training centre and annual activity for 2025 includes 850 device implants and 470 ablations.

The EP fellow is the senior trainee in electrophysiology and is actively encouraged to participate in all of these procedures. Because the onsite ablation service has only been operating since 2007 there is a good volume of conventional ablation for accessory pathways and AV nodal tachycardia, in addition to the ablation of complex arrhythmias, including VT. There will also be an opportunity to train in novel and emerging device implantation techniques including conduction system pacing (CSP) and extravascular ICD implantation.

The post will be based at the Regional Cardiac Centre at Morriston Hospital.

It will be suitable for an applicant who holds a National Training Number and is within one to two years of completion of their training programme, or equivalent.

Applicants will be expected to be proficient in diagnostic coronary angiography and standard pacing techniques, and should have some experience of the interventional EP lab. opportunity to train in novel and emerging device implantation techniques including conduction system pacing (CSP) and extravascular ICD implantation.

The training fellowship will last for 12 months and the successful applicant will have at least 7 fixed sessions allocated to electrophysiology procedures, complex device implantation and sub-speciality outpatient clinic. The remainder of the timetable will be committed to supervising the clinical SpRs and SHOs on the ward, audit and research interests the successful candidate might wish to pursue.

Procedures will be performed under the supervision of one of the three consultant electrophysiologists. For candidates whose main interest in device therapy there is a large volume of procedural experience to be gained and the opportunity to develop skills in newer techniquesincluding CSP and extravascular ICD implantation.

For candidates with an interest in ablation the post provides exceptional experience in conventional and complex ablation, giving a great opportunity to consolidate understanding of the mechanisms of arrhythmias, and their management.
