Why work for us?

Patients are at the centre of everything we do at NHS Borders, ensuring they are safe and cared for efficiently by suitably experienced and qualified staff. We foster a dynamic and forward-thinking team with a wealth of clinical and leadership experience. We promote an open and honest culture and believe in nurturing future stars in NHS.

Our service serves a stable population in a tranquil, beautiful rural area just 36 miles from Scotland's vibrant capital, Edinburgh. We offer excellent leisure facilities and a quality of life second to none. A relocation package, assistance with temporary accommodation (including on-site accommodation if desired), or excess travel costs are available for successful candidates.

The Role

This post is suited for doctors who have completed a UK Foundation medical training programme (or equivalent) and have sufficient experience in managing acutely unwell adult patients to function at an intermediate level, reporting to a consultant physician. Candidates may be interested in gaining experience in acute or general medicine or medicine for the elderly, possibly for future specialty training, or seeking professional development to complement other career options.

This is not a training grade post and is not recognized for training purposes; however, it offers an excellent foundation for future training applications.

You will work under the supervision of the Stroke Consultant to develop skills in Stroke and Medicine for the Elderly.

The development component of this post is flexible, tailored to your needs, experience, and career interests. You may develop a paper-based portfolio aligned with an appropriate curriculum (CMT or higher training depending on your experience). Opportunities include Medical Education (particularly in Simulation), Management and Leadership, Clinical Skills, and Quality Improvement, approximately one day per week.
