Senior Category Manager - Capital Equipment

Are you an experienced Senior Category Manager looking to join an ambitious team in one of the most complex and large NHS Trusts in the UK? The Senior Category Manager will lead the Capital Equipment team. As a senior member in a newly established position, you will play a key role in developing and implementing the new Procurement and Supply Chain operating model and strategy across Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and the 'Smart Together' Shared Service for corporate services procurement.

We are embarking on an exciting transformation journey aimed at advancing our operations and delivering greater value to all the Trusts we serve.

We are looking for a forward-thinking and innovative Senior Category Manager to head up our Capital Equipment procurement category and deliver a large, complex, and demanding capital equipment procurement program. In this role, you will develop our commercial approach through Category Management and Strategic Sourcing. Collaborating with the senior leadership team, you will foster a positive and high-performing culture by building trust and accountability with all team members.

Main Duties of the Job

Reporting to the Associate Director of Capital Procurement & Contracts and being part of their leadership team.

Leading change with innovative procurement practices to drive out costs and improve patient care.

Providing specialist, expert procurement advice and support to stakeholders.

Developing and managing the vital link between stakeholders and procurement.

Engaging with multi-functional teams at all levels across Guy's and St Thomas' and the Shared Service.

Working closely with stakeholders, including clinicians, service managers, suppliers, professional associations, partner organisations, and system colleagues.

Leading capital procurement programs and supporting the implementation of category and sourcing strategies across a complex procurement project portfolio.

Providing oversight and reporting regarding medical equipment procurement and other capital programs to governance forums and finance colleagues.

The post holder will be positive, forward-thinking, resilient, and capable of managing competing priorities. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in medical equipment procurement, possess strong interpersonal skills, be highly adept at delivering procurement projects, have a customer-focused approach, and broad commercial acumen.

Smart Together is a shared procurement and supply chain service hosted by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, one of the leading hospitals in the country, serving hospitals across south east London.

Smart Together currently provides services to GSTT and four other NHS Trusts, namely Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications
  • Educated to Master's degree level, MCIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply), or equivalent experience in business, procurement, or supply chain.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial contract management, best practices, and public sector contract legislation. Knowledge of Government Best Practice in Contract Management.
  • Relevant project management qualifications such as APMP or PRINCE2. Legal background or knowledge in contract law.
  • Possession of relevant qualifications such as RICS, MRICS, or equivalent, with specialization in contract or commercial management.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Extensive management experience within the NHS or public sector.
  • Knowledge of NHS procurement regulations and policies.
  • Experience in program management and delivering large-scale projects.
  • Responsibility for financial resources, including budgeting, setting, and monitoring.
  • Experience working within a public sector procurement environment.
Skills
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage complex, multi-stranded projects.

Salary: £70,387 to £80,465 per annum, including HCA (pro-rata)
