Job Description
Senior BESS Engineer - OEM

We're looking for a Senior BESS Engineer to join a world class green technology manufacturer operating across wind, energy storage and hydrogen, with a strong international footprint and significant investment in advanced energy solutions. The business is scaling rapidly to support global energy transition programmes. This is a critical role focused on engineering governance, system integration and technical assurance across utility scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) deployments.

As a Senior BESS Engineer, you'll operate at the interface between product engineering and project deployment. You'll take ownership of integration standards, testing strategies and control system validation, ensuring BESS solutions are configured, commissioned and operated in line with technical specifications and grid compliance requirements. You'll act as a subject matter expert, supporting customers, EPCs and internal teams across the full asset lifecycle.

Senior BESS Engineer Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and refine engineering processes within the BESS deployment and support function
  • Develop and review project specific integration and testing plans in collaboration with global product teams
  • Oversee the integration of control systems (PCS, SCADA, PPC), ensuring alignment with product design and project requirements
  • Review and approve engineering documentation including control logic, I/O lists, network architecture and communication interfaces
  • Act as a technical authority on system integration for internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical support to EPCs and project teams during commissioning phases (FAT, SIT, SAT)
  • Lead on grid compliance alignment, including interpretation of requirements (e.g. G99/G100 in the UK)
  • Act as L3 technical escalation point for operational assets, supporting O&M teams with fault diagnostics and resolution
  • Work closely with customers, EPC contractors, consultants and internal teams to ensure alignment on technical requirements
  • Support project teams in new markets, providing guidance on commissioning and grid compliance frameworks
Senior BESS Engineer - Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline
  • 3+ years' experience working on utility scale BESS systems, ideally within an OEM, integrator or technical advisory environment
  • Strong understanding of battery technologies (LFP), PCS functionality and BESS control strategies
  • Experience with system integration, protection coordination and communication protocols
  • Hands on involvement in FAT, SIT/SAT and commissioning support activities
  • Strong knowledge of grid compliance frameworks (e.g. G99/G100) and evolving industry standards
  • Familiarity with topics such as grid forming inverters, NFPA requirements and cybersecurity considerations
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across operational assets
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and coordination capability across multiple parties
What can they offer you?

This is an opportunity to join a globally recognised OEM at the forefront of energy storage innovation. You'll play a key role in ensuring cutting edge BESS technology performs reliably in real world applications, while influencing future product development and supporting high profile energy transition projects worldwide.
