Senior Back End Software Engineer (TypeScript)
Salary: up to £85,000
Location: Fully remote (UK, EU, or North America time zones)

We're hiring a Senior Back End Software Engineer to join a fast-growing startup in the sustainability and renewables space.

The business is scaling its customer and internal platforms and is building out the core Back End and data foundations that underpin a growing product ecosystem. This is a hands-on role with real influence over architecture, data systems, and platform direction.

Importantly, there is a clear progression path in mind towards a Head of Software Engineering position as the engineering team grows. This role is well suited to someone who wants to remain technically hands-on while gradually taking on broader ownership and leadership responsibility.

The role

• Design, build and extend Back End systems using TypeScript and modern serverless patterns
• Develop and maintain APIs and integrations that power customer-facing and internal platforms
• Work with database schemas, authentication, and Back End services to support scalable data pipelines
• Collaborate closely with Front End engineers to deliver end-to-end features
• Contribute to internal automation tools and operational workflows
• Balance rapid delivery with reliability, performance and maintainable system design

About you

• 5+ years' professional experience in Back End or full-stack engineering
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript in production environments
• Solid understanding of API design, database modelling and serverless architectures
• Comfortable working across Back End logic, data modelling and platform integrations
• Experience working autonomously in remote, distributed teams

Nice to have

• Experience with Supabase or similar Back End-as-a-service platforms
• Exposure to data pipelines, analytics or AI/ML integrations
• Familiarity with geospatial, sustainability or data-intensive systems
