Senior Associate Director - Cable System Design

We are seeking a senior associate director to support a range of high profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio. This includes high voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

• Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP & COMSOL to support cable system design.
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
• Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
• Developing HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
• Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
• Support factory inspections Test (FAT).
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, and sheath induced voltage calculations.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
• Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good working relations with client / designer / team, together with our supply chain.
• Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
• Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
• Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
• Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
• Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP /Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer (IET) or working towards chartership.
• Working as CDAE and TP141 authorisation preferred.

• Proven experience in HV Cable System design (132 kV-400 kV), ideally within UK transmission and distribution environments.
• Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams and contribute to strategic project delivery.
